A Short History of DRAA’s Establishment and Key Milestones

The Digital Rights Alliance Africa (DRAA) was established in response to the growing need for a unified regional effort to safeguard digital rights and promote internet freedom across Africa. Founded in collaboration with leading digital rights organizations, DRAA aims to address the increasing threats to online civic spaces, including censorship, internet shutdowns, and violations of privacy and data protection rights.

Research on the Protection of Children in Online Spaces

This project, in partnership with ICNL, focuses on studying the vulnerabilities faced by children in online environments and identifying measures to protect their rights and privacy. Key Activities: Conducting comprehensive research on threats such as cyberbullying, exploitation, and exposure to harmful content. · Developing policy recommendations for governments and stakeholders to strengthen child protection in digital spaces. · Raising awareness among parents, educators, and policymakers on safe online practices. · Status: Ongoing

Capacity Building on Digital Security for CSOs

Aimed at strengthening the capacity of civil society organizations to protect themselves against digital threats and advocate effectively for digital rights. Key Activities: · Delivering workshops and training on digital security tools and strategies. · Developing tailored resources for CSOs to enhance their online safety and advocacy skills. · Status: Active

Advocacy Toolkit Implementation

Following the launch of the Advocacy Toolkit for NHRIs on Digital Rights at the ACHPR’s 81st Ordinary Session, this project supports CSOs in using the toolkit to advance digital rights advocacy. Key Activities: · Training CSOs on how to use the toolkit effectively. · Supporting grassroots advocacy campaigns in member countries. · Status: Ongoing

Regional Dialogues on Internet Freedom

Facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues to address critical issues such as privacy, access, and freedom of expression in the African digital landscape. Key Activities: · Hosting regional forums and roundtables to discuss internet governance and digital rights. · Creating platforms for collaboration between governments, private sector actors, and civil society. · Status: Active
